the past month...

commission. 8"x10", charcoal on illustration board

this is a house drawing to be given as an anniversary gift. if you'll notice the above photo was taken pre-pup. the woman who commissioned the piece didn't have a photo of the dog, but told me he looked just like toto. so, i did some googling.

post-pup

commission. 18"x60", acrylic on canvas

created for a couple who visited montepulciano, italy last summer. they also just moved into a new home and wanted a piece to compliment their colorful decor - oranges, greens, golds.

commission. 24"x36", acrylic on canvas

this is an old mine in colorado. the family who commissioned it have visited this spot in colorado for over twenty years, at least. they always pose for pictures on the large rock in the foreground. sadly, the mine was recently destroyed by an avalanche. this painting was given as a mother's day gift and was actually commissioned long before they knew the mine had been destroyed. the mom used to have a custom stained glass window of this scene in her home until moving to a new house. now she has a painting.

commission. 16"x20", conte/pastel on paper

a grandmother commissioned this piece of her only grandchild.

i have been a poor picture taker. the majority of these photos were taken before the pieces were totally finished. typically i take photos while i'm working and email them to my clients to finalize details. i'm not always the best at taking a super quality last shot. all of these are just different commissions that i've created over the past month.

in other news...i did not win the 2009 hunting art prize, but did get to go to the gala in houston. it was quite the event. it was held in the decorative arts center of houston. there was a lot of really good art there along with tasty food, a band and loads of amazing flowers all over the place. my painting was situated right across from the dessert bar. we were instructed to stick close by our paintings.  needless to say, i more than sampled almost every dessert.  it was a whirlwind of a day. michael and i drove there from dallas just in time to make it to the event, and then turned around at 10 pm and drove straight back. we had to be back early the next morning. though exhausting, i was thankful to get to be a part.

also, if you are in mississippi (i know there are a few of you readers out there) i wanted to let you know that i have several pieces of work for sale at lagniappe in greenville. stop by if you're driving through!

finally, i'm having another art show in tyler this summer. it will be held the last weekend of august. i'm in the beginnings of prepping for the show. i'll try to post some photos as i finish new work.

i believe that is all for now. thanks for stopping by!
